Greensky Bluegrass stays true to the ‘Zoo

If you’re not familiar with Greensky Bluegrass, you’re not very familiar with the West Michigan music scene. This Kalamazoo quintet has been bringing their non-traditional approach to traditional music since 2000, with one foot buried deep in bluegrass and the other in rocking the hell out.

Not only have they developed a faithful following right here in the Mitten, they’ve also demanded attention across the country, winning the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition in 2006 and catching the attention of Rolling Stone at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in 2011, which identified the band as “…representing the genre for a whole new generation.”
